There are some rumors about the use of cat meat in Chinese food and it has been around for quite a long time. However, there are some different perspectives from the society about this considering that cat is a kind of pet, just like dogs. Eating cat seems improper. Cats are supposed to be loved, not to be eaten. That is what some people think. Some other also think that cat is an animal too, like cow and pig, which means the meat can be eaten. Unfortunately, cat meat is really used in China. This is the reason why cats are rarely found in China because people eat them and restaurants serve them. While this might be cruel for western countries, this is a common thing in China. Cat meat in Chinese food has been around for many years and the cats are even put in cages before they are killed, cooked and eaten. However, this just happens only in China, which means the Chinese restaurants outside China might not use cat meat considering that this is uncommon in many other countries.

If the menus do not give information about what meat used in the name of the food, then you might not be able to realize and have difficulties in differing cat meat with beef or pork because they look almost the same when they are cooked. This is because cat meat is a kind of red meat like beef and pork. To avoid any chance of eating cat meat in Chinese food, you can consider eating white meat or go with veggies instead.
